About the event

In this live play, in the upper level taproom at Hub Town, the storyteller begins by telling a story of when, at seven years old, he was taken to see his mother in the hospital after her first attempt to take her own life. Afterwards, the storyteller begins a list. A list of everything brilliant about the world. Everything worth living for. The story explores depression and hope, uncertainty and change, confusion and joy, heartbreak and anger, relationships and solitude, risk and resistance, guilt and fortiveness.

Throughout, the storyteller interacts with the audience members to tell about life with his or his mother's depression as a backdrop, including the effects it has on his life and relationships.

BIOs:

Trevor - the storyteller: "Normally when I do a play, it is to escape into another character. But with Every Brilliant Thing, I have been able to find myself in the narrator. Being a person who has dealt with depression in the past and will in the future, (as I am human), I have learned that it's ok and helpful to talk about things. Especially things that are hardest to talk about. Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy the play."

Rayna - the director: "For Every Brilliant Thing, Trevor came to me almost 5 years ago and asked if I would direct him in this play. After reading it the first time and having it hit home to me in so many ways, I knew I wanted to be a part of this brilliant story. I myself have dealt with depression ever since I can remember. As a little girl, I remember asking why I hurt so much. At the time, depression wasn't talked about, let alone mental health.  I was essentially told to get over it. And I have sucked it up for the past 46 years.  Being part of this play and bringing it to as many people as we can, sharing that this isn't a battle we have to do alone, is truly something I want to do and believe is so important."

NOTE: this play deals with very mature content so please be very cautious when choosing this play for those under 18 years of age.
